Managing the Side Effects of Chemotherapy - M. Gardiner - 20161012

This lecture discusses the management of common chemotherapy-induced side effects and complications. The lecture includes a review of current guidelines for management of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting and gives practical recommendations for other gastrointestinal side effects, including diarrhea, constipation, mucositis, and hiccups. There is also discussion of white blood cell growth factors, including appropriate use of these agents for cancer patients. Learning Outcomes: • Identify an appropriate regimen for prevention and treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. • Discuss a self-care plan for management of gastrointestinal related side effects. • Explain appropriate use of white blood cell growth factors.
