The Difficult Patient - J. Johnson - 20150304
This talk will highlight some of the most dreaded patients we see in healthcare, the"Difficult Patient." This patient typically involves ones with substance use disorders or those with personality traits that make them angry, irritable, demanding, condescending, or threatening. This talk will outline ways to think about "difficult patients", providing examples as well as a basic psychological understanding of why certain patients act certain ways. Finally, it will provide behavioral and medical ways for managing difficult patients so that staff feels more comfortable managing these types of people when they are in their clinic or hospital. This lecture was presented as a part of the Medical and Surgical Oncology Lecture Series.
